I met Mike Kurtz when he was working at a record store. I was probably buying a copy of Fables of the Reconstruction when he asked me what I thought about this, and played his band's first single. I liked it, and I followed Three Hits around for the next year-and-a-half that I lived in Raleigh. Mike and Sheila were the nicest people I met in Raleigh during that time. One gig in particular sticks in my mind - Three Hits opening for The Swimming Pool Q's at the Cat's Cradle. Both Sheila and Anne Richmond Boston seemed to shed their inhibitions that night and sang like hell, while their bands reached for the stratosphere. A truly wondrous night of rock and roll.

I just picked up a copy of REM's "And I Feel Fine (the Best of the I.R.S. Years) and it totally transported me to the time Michael is talking about. Recording with the Three Hits and Don Dixon has to be one of the highlights of my life. I remember the gig Michael is talking about and it was great. We actually wrote a song after this show called "Times Starts Now," probably inspired by the experience. Thanks for bringing that back to life Michael!
