Naked Ramblers - The Jellyfish Walk
from the cassette Figure Five - 1986

Winston-Salem's Naked Ramblers were a hardcore rockabilly band (for lack of a better term). Always fun to see live. They were always my favorite band to see at the Riff (a short-lived club in W-S). "Jellyfish Walk" was a popular Ramblers tune.

Band Members:
Randy Burke - Vocals and Guitar
Tom Montefusco - Guitars
Carl Wilkerson - Bass
Jimmy Triplett - Drums

I always considered the Naked Ramblers to be NC's answer to XTC. They had the same quirky-pop sensibilities.
The last time I saw them, they were in a "battle of the bands" at the Milestone. They were going against Southern Culture On The Skids (the crowd favorite), and the Blind Dates. The prize was free studio time at Reflections. The judges went with the Blind Dates (an all-girl group)--I always thought the judges went with them due to the "Go-Go's" nature of the group. I thought the Naked Ramblers clearly had the best set of the night.

I remember the Red Plastic Guns. They used to play up at ASU when I was in school there in the early 80's.

Ultimately, we were in the wrong place (NC) at the right time (80s). The End.
